This loosely rendered painting of people enjoying a morning at Ocala's Tuscawilla City Park was part of the Pathways and Pastimes Exhibitat City Hall celebrating National Parks and Recreation Month, July-Aug 2013.
I am honored that this watercolor was selected by Munroe Regional Medical Center for an exhibit in the 3rd Floor Plumley Lobby Surgical Waiting Room from September 1 - January 2, 2014. On January 3, 2014 I was notified that the hospital volunteers had selected this painting to add to the permanent art collection at MRMC. The inspiration for this composition came from several photos. I took many photos of storm clouds this summer, and tried to capture the power and movement of a threatening clouds. I also wanted to paint another view of Orange Lake at Cross Creek while keeping the focus on the stormy sky.
This acrylic painting was juried into the Ocala Art Group's Exhibit of 30 works in
Ocala's City Hall lobby, September 7 through November 5, 2012. The composition for this oil painting is based on photos I took at a farm in Evinston during a Plein Air Painters Event. My artist friends from WPAG and I enjoyed a short wagon ride from Evinston out to the farm, pulled by a team of horses. The day was windy and I had to jump off the wagon to chase my hat! An artist friend, Dr. Virginia Neal in Crystal River, kindly shared with me her many photos of commercial boats on the Withlacoochee River. This duet of shrimp boats captured my imagination. I especially liked the lacy effect of the masts and the reflections in the still water.
This painting was inspired by Seminole Falls at beautiful Rainbow Springs State Park near Ocala, Florida. The view of Orange Lake near the boat ramp at Cross Creek. The rural home of writer Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is adjacent to the park.
